Scheduling with the resort
While you generally can’t go wrong with trusted booking sites, some hotels only offer certain perks if you book directly with them. If you have your heat set on a resort, it is always good to call them or visit their website for any exclusive deals.
Arrange travel from the airport ahead of time, if possible.
Unfortunately, many hotels and resorts in Punta Cana do not have a dedicated shuttle, even the top notch resorts only 10 minutes from the airport.
It is best to arrive with cash, as taxis only take (as of early 2020). If you are short however, call your hotel and they may be able to provide you with a cash advance when you arrive at the resort.
Arriving at the airport
When you arrive at the airport in Punta Cana it can be a bit overwhelming. You are instantly greeted by people who take your bags and have you follow them to what appears to be a check out area. Within the airport itself, prior to departing the main building to the taxi area there are a series of desks with concierges whose job is to change your plans to book with another hotel. They will sell hard. So if you are set on your plans, we suggest avoiding this experience all together.
Tipping at all inclusive resort
Let your conscience be your guide! At no time will you ever be pressured to tip in Punta Cana, especially at the all inclusive resorts. However, it is always an appreciated gesture for great service.
Weather
The weather averages right around 80 degrees the entire year. Rainy months tend to be May, as well as Oct and Nov. Keep in mind that the hurricane season typically runs from June to November, with an average of 13 storms each year in the Caribbean. For this reason, trip insurance is recommended for travel to any Caribbean destination between June and November
Insurance
Travel insurance is always recommended. This insurance can cover things like canceled flights, lost luggage, need to cancel the vacation due to personal reasons, etc. Some plans also include partial reimbursements if the weather is bad. So, if you are planning a Caribbean vacation between June and November, travel insurance is highly recommend. Most plans are under $200, and some as low as only $100. Like insurance, there are plenty of options to give you the right peace of mind.
